The Stink Bugs, Carrboro High School’s Senior recreational basketball team, competed against GBO at Hargraves Community Center on Tuesday at 8:30 P.M., in what was a heated battle down to the final buzzer. Amid rising tension and a growing hum from the crowd, the Stink Bugs remained composed and attentive throughout the game.
The Stink Bugs emerged victorious for the first time this season in a close game against GBO, with a final score of 36-33. It was a hard fought battle for both teams and a crucial momentum boost for the Bugs going forward.
“It was twenty-eight minutes of all-out war,” said Jack Warner, member of the Stink Bugs.
“We started slow, but we picked up the intensity, went on some runs, and I’m thankful we were able to come out with the win,” said Warner.
“Our team looked great tonight. We played smarter and more confident than we have before. I think we’ve set ourselves up for a great position moving forward,” said Mark McGrath, Stink Bugs’ coach.
“I love where we are right now. The leadership and toughness we’re showing right now is what’s gonna help us continue to win,” said McGrath.
With the team’s first win of the year under their belt, the Stinkbugs are ready for the rest of the season.
The Stink Bugs are now 1-2 on the season. Their next game will be against Weenie Patrol on Thursday, 1/9 at the Lincoln Center.
